New Year always provides an opportunity to reflect on individual circumstances and set new goals.

The CABE Expert Panel is made up of expert and senior CABE members who collaborate to offer impartial advice to the Association on a wide range of issues.

In October, the Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK) joined CABE as an International Academic Partner.

Congratulations to Avril Walsh from the University of Limerick, who has been awarded the CABE Best Final Year Student following the completion of her BSc (Hons) in Construction Management and Engineering.

This is the last issue of 2024, before we begin our centenary year celebrations in 2025.

CABE is pleased to announce a new equivalent membership agreement with the Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT), which is based in Putrajaya, south of Kuala Lumpur.

With insurance markets hardening globally in recent years, construction professionals have reported finding it a challenge to access the right level of insurance cover.

September saw Carl Pearson LLM MBCS and Laura Richardson CMgr MCMI begin their new roles within CABE as Associate Director, Legal, Governance and Operations, and Associate Director, Marketing and Communications, respectively.

In June, CABE sailed through a second surveillance audit, ensuring the Association remains on track to retain its ISO 9001 certification.

CABE is delighted to announce that Dr Hywel Davies HonFCIBSE joined CABE in August as Head of Technical Insight.

In August, Jackie Macaulay will step down as CABE’s Chief Operating Officer. She has led CABE’s operations for the past six years, working closely with the management team CEO Richard Harral (formerly Technical Director) and Dr Gavin Dunn (former CEO).

At this time of year, it’s always good practice to check in on your CPD progress to date. 2024 is the first year CABE altered its CPD year to run from 1 January until 31 December, and all fee-paying members (excluding Retired) must upload a minimum of 35 hours of CPD within that time.

CABE’s Hong Kong Chapter enjoyed its latest CPD opportunity on 27 May – an evening seminar called The Internet of Things (IoT) and its Application on Building Automation Systems (BAS).
