Work has started to transform a vacant brownfield site in Greater Manchester into 15 homes for young care leavers.

The site is being developed by Jigsaw Homes in partnership with Oldham Council, which disposed of the land to Jigsaw to enable the homes to be built. The two organisations submitted a successful joint bid to the government’s Single Homelessness Accommodation Programme to support the development with grant funding from Homes England.

The one-bedroom apartments will provide much-needed accommodation for people aged 18-25 who are leaving the  care system.

The development will equip residents with a stepping stone towards independent living. As well as self-contained apartments with a bedroom, bathroom and kitchen, the building will also feature communal areas and will have support staff on-site.

The development is expected to be completed in February 2026.
