Northern Ireland news

The Department for Infrastructure has opened a consultation to help inform any future review of the Strategic Planning Policy Statement, which sets out the regional planning policies for the development of land.

Given the climate emergency and the Climate Change Act (Northern Ireland) 2022, the department is looking at how its planning policies can help to reduce carbon emissions on the path to net zero by 2050, as well as at the appropriateness of extant policy provisions such as on flood risk, transportation and development in the countryside. The consultation and call for evidence will run until 28 March 2024.

In addition, the Department for Communities has announced the appointment of seven new members and the re-appointment of the Chair and one member to the Ministerial Advisory Group (MAG) for Architecture and the Built Environment.
